We present a simple explanation for what led to the creation of Large Language Models and Foundation Models, are the core of ongoing developments in Generative AI. We then consider applications that have been built using these AI models such as conversational agents (such as ChatGPT), the development of Copilots for various tasks (such as programming), and the disruption that these applications are causing in various domains. We then engage with the students in a discussion on opportunities and challenges in this area, including ethics and responsible AI.
