Design is all around us, in a myriad of forms. We interact with it daily, in digital formats and in print. Good design makes life easier through seamless communication. It can be beautiful and elaborate or minimal and quiet. The goal of design is to communicate a message, design for an unmet need or grow awareness for a brand.
This course will introduce students to the fundamental skills required to design and develop a brand - from idea to execution. They will learn about design processes, methodology and how to develop the skills to create work with an iterative model.
The goal of this course is to equip students with a set of tangible and conceptual tools for making and communicating in the field of graphic design. Students will develop and design a brand by learning the four cornerstones of graphic design: shape, typography, colour, and composition. They will learn the importance of peer review and develop skills to critique their own work as well as those of fellow students. This core skill set will equip them for formal studies in graphic design, and a starting point for further work in communication design, research and packaging.
The course will be completed by a student showcase that applies the skills learned in a finished branding project.
