The Dance workshop will explore the technical and narrative aspects of contemporary dance. Conditioning the body and making it available for movement is one of the foundations of the workshop. We will try to find tangible answers to questions related to the listening, thinking, moving and performing body. Questions like - what are the different ways in which the body experiences music and movement? How can techniques from different movement practices help create your own movement vocabulary? How can one nourish and encourage impulses and curiosities pertaining to movement? The sessions will introduce and familiarise participants with different techniques and tools to set us on an exploratory path of understanding and embodying movement.
The key concepts of the workshop are - strengthening and mobility work, breath-work, core techniques of contemporary dance, improvisation, introduction to a somatics practice, rhythm work, and movement phrases.
Prior training in any movement practice will be helpful but is not a prerequisite to enrol in this workshop. The workshop is designed to suit all levels of experience.
